Five answers to common Hybrid myths.

1. Only a few people have bought Hybrids

For some people, hybrid technology is still thought of as a new technology.

However since our hybrid story began in 1997, with the launch of the first Prius, over ten million people have chosen to move forward with a Toyota hybrid and not looked back.

2. Hybrids need to be plugged in

No cables, no sockets, no waiting around to charge, just jump in behind the wheel and drive.

When the hybrid battery runs low, the petrol engine charges it back up again. And when you brake or coast, that energy is recycled and used to charge the battery. Meaning your car's battery is always ready and charged!

3. Hybrids are expensive to buy and service

It costs about the same to service a hybrid as a conventional Toyota and can be carried out by any Toyota Authorised Reparier.

In fact, some parts like brake pads may, in fact, wear less due to the benefits of the hybrid's regenerative braking. All hybrids come with a 5 year/100,000 mile *manufacturer warranty and a 5 year/100,000 hybrid battery warranty.

4. There isn't a Hybrid model that's right for me

As the hybrid leader, Toyota offer an ever-growing range of seven hybrid models for everyone and everything. From the city-slicking Yaris Hybrid, the spacious Auris Hybrid hatchback and Touring Sports, the RAV4 – the original compact SUV – to the three-car Prius family, there’s sure to be a Hybrid match for you.

5. Hybrids are complex and boring to drive

One of the reasons why our customers rarely change back after owning a hybrid is that they love how smooth and easy to drive they are. You’ll notice how all our Hybrids are automatic and come equipped with keyless start systems, so you just jump in, hit the start button, put the lever in Drive and go.
